Solana Foundation president Lily Liu said the Solana Accelerate event in Shanghai was postponed after pre-registration passed a cap set by local authorities. In a Friday post on X, Liu said sign-ups grew fourfold overnight once the event received more attention. Organizers chose to postpone it to comply with local requirements, she said.
Registration outran the venue cap
The decision came after earlier claims on X that the event had been stopped without much notice. Users said law enforcement officers were stationed at the venue. Liu’s account frames the delay as a registration and compliance issue, not a cancellation. It is still not clear whether the event will be rescheduled or whether the format will change. That leaves attendees and partners waiting for a new date.
What happens to the China tour
Shanghai was supposed to open Solana’s four-city Accelerate China tour. The schedule listed Hangzhou for Sunday, Shenzhen for Tuesday and Beijing for Thursday, according to the event website. It is not known if those stops will go ahead as planned. The postponement also followed Solana executives promoting a new Shanghai office earlier this week. That made the delay more awkward, perhaps, because the company had just raised its local profile.
China policy remains the backdrop
China bans many crypto-related services, including token fundraising, trading and mining. In February, the People’s Bank of China and seven other agencies reinforced those rules in a notice that added new bans, including unauthorized issuance of yuan-pegged stablecoins. For Solana, the Shanghai delay is a local logistics problem with a policy backdrop. The foundation has not said whether the cap was tied to safety, venue size or another local requirement. A previous Solana event in Shenzhen was also cut short in October 2025 due to venue capacity and public-safety concerns, according to Solana’s Chinese-language community account on X. For now, the Accelerate China tour is on hold in Shanghai, and the next steps depend on local authorities and organizers.
