Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has rolled out a notable upgrade aimed at its trading communities. Users can now embed live price charts and market data directly into their posts using the “Cashtag” feature.

Nikita Bier, an X employee, demonstrated the new functionality with a $TSLA cashtag. It automatically displays an interactive widget showing Tesla’s current share price, daily percentage change, and a sparkline chart of recent price action. All this information appears without users needing to click away from their timeline.

The cryptocurrency community was quick to test the feature. Prominent members were seen using it with $XRP, one of the leading cryptocurrencies. The feature generates native widgets that show real-time price fluctuations directly in the feed.

Cashtag evolution

The “Cashtag” feature is similar to the familiar hashtag (#), which aggregates topics on X. It uses a dollar sign prefix followed by a ticker, such as $XRP. By clicking cashtags, users can instantly find information about specific stocks or cryptocurrencies.

Earlier, clicking a cashtag would redirect users to a search page with a static price chart at the top. But under Elon Musk’s leadership, the platform has upgraded its market tools significantly. Now, charts appear directly in the timeline as interactive embeds, making them easier to use in threads.

No crypto payments

Despite these upgrades, X has made it clear that it has no immediate plans to offer cryptocurrency payments. This comes even though Musk has repeatedly shared his vision of X as the “everything app.” However, investor speculation persists about crypto being integrated into the platform eventually. So, the door does not seem permanently closed.
