The Shiba Inu community is watching closely as Shytoshi Kusama, the project’s lead ambassador, approaches 74 days without a single post on X. His last activity was on May 13. This isn’t the first time Kusama has gone quiet. He pulled a similar move in late 2025 and parts of 2026.
Why the Silence?
Kusama has often used X as his main way to talk to the community. Sometimes he’d update his bio or location to drop hints. Other times he’d go live. But for over two months, nothing. Back in January, he mentioned he was working on something — an independent AI project. He linked his silence to building that. Still, without any updates, the community is left guessing. They now rely on posts from other Shiba Inu ecosystem contributors and on-chain data to figure out what’s happening.
What History Suggests
Past hiatuses ended with Kusama breaking his silence and sharing fresh news. That pattern is fueling hope that something big might be coming soon. But as of now, nobody knows for sure. There’s no confirmation of a major announcement. It could be anything, or nothing at all. The community is just waiting.
Shiba Inu Burns Keep Going
While Kusama stays quiet, the community-led burn activities haven’t slowed down. According to Shibburn, the last 24 hours saw 7.15 million SHIB burned. That’s a 66% rise in the daily burn rate. Over the past week, 60.58 million SHIB was burned. In the last 30 days? 288.61 million SHIB. Robinhood was the biggest contributor this month, sending 152,792,823 SHIB to dead wallets in 106 transactions.
So far, a total of 410,840,455,020,349 SHIB has been burned across 21,280 transactions. A huge chunk of that came from Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin, who burned 410 trillion SHIB back in May 2021. That single event still dominates the total.
For now, the community waits. Kusama’s silence might mean nothing. Or it could mean something big is brewing. Time will tell.
